Sanae Hattori Oeuvre

Born in Tokyo Japan. Sanae studied at Joshibi University Art and Design and majored in Japanese Embroidery.
Sanaefs creations include around 60 of works that are prize winnings or special invitees at International contests held around the world. Sanae is a pioneer of "Uchikake Quilt Fashion Show" which started in America since the early 90fs and came under the spotlight in quilterfs world - they have been presented 12 times in Japan and 7 times outside of Japan. Exhibitions held at Okura Museum of Art, O Art Museum, The Museum of Art, Ehime, Furukawa Art Museum and many more museums across the globe.

Sanae has been a lecturer at Joshibi University Art and Design, American Club in Japan and many other seminars. There are 11 Japanese published books of her works, and 2 front covers on American published books of collection of International quilts.  Television appearances varies from Sangetsu TV commercial, NHK's "Ohayo Nippon" and "Oshare Kobo", and TV Asahi's "Tetsuko's Room".  Numerous newspaper and magazine articles featured Sanae and her work over the years.

Sanaefs world have reached to multiple audience that are not limited to quilters. 
She has been commissioned to create a piece for the Royal Wedding of Crown Princess Masako of Japan and also commissioned to design Japanese sumo wrestlerfs formal attire; kesho-mawashi.

Sanaefs works were selected for the product catalogue of Canon Bubble Jet Textile Printing System.  Canon also produced printed fabric products of her work to showcase the colour range of Canonfs industrial textile printing system.

History:
1978 Founded a Patchwork Quilt School, SANAE Art Studio Co., Ltd.

1980 - 2016 Held over
80 solo exhibitions and fashion shows around the world. Presented countries include Japan, America, China, Canada, England, France, Italy, Germany, Austria, Spain, Denmark, Holland, Australia, Taiwan, and Korea.

1986 - 2003 Won 28 prizes in 14 years at the International Quilt Festival in U.S.A. during the years she had entered.

1986 Won prizes for gSoaring Craneh, gFraming Drumh and gWeeping Cherry Branchesh in the gHands All Around Divisionh of the 12th International Quilt Festival held in Houston, Texas, U.S.A. The above three masterpieces were adopted in gHands All Aroundh a collection of top quilts from 25 countries and published by E.P. Dutton of New York. gSoaring Craneh was selected for the book cover. With this achievement she won the Blue Ribbon Prize.

1988 Won the Special Prize, as the only artist from outside Western countries, with gDragon Godh, representing Japan at The 1st Europe Quilt Expo held in Salzburg, Austria. The prize was for gBest Expressing the Quilting Tradition or Cultural Influences of Its Home Countryh.

Held an exhibition in Vancouver, Canada. Exhibited 20 masterpieces at the convention Centre and three other locations.

1989 Won a prize as the country winner, with her gWaiting for Springh at the Great American Quilt Festival, an International contest held in New York. The same exhibition went around 13 countries for 3 years after being exhibited in New York.

gSnow on the Bamboo Leavesh won the Gold Award of Merit in the AIQA International Contest of the 15th International Quilt Festival.

1990 Invited to the audience with Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, and commentated on Sanaefs works.

gThe Sanae Hattori Exhibitionh toured 4 major cities in Japan.

A talk show TV appearance on TV Asahi's "Tetsuko's Room".

1991 Invited to the audience with the Empress Dowager of Denmark, the Queen of Greece and Ms. Hanako the Princess Hitachi, and commentated on Sanaefs works.

1992 Commissioned to design a formal ceremonial ornamental apron (kesho-mawashi) for a newcomer Sumo wrestler gNaminohanah.

1993 Commissioned to create a piece for the Royal Wedding of Crown Princess Masako of Japan which was requested by princessfs grandmother.

1994 6 masterpieces were invited as special exhibition items to the gMasterpiece Exhibition of World Representative Artistsh at The 4th Europe Quilt Expo held in Karlsruble, and at the Maxburg Museum in Heidelberg, Germany.

Produced a film gSanae Hattori: World of Beautyh a film where entire location took place in Germany, including at the Neuschwanstein Castle.
